The Second Death

Revelation 21:8: But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The first death is physical. It is the separation of one*s spirit from his body. The second death is spiritual. It is the final separation of a soul from God. Individuals who will suffer that death have lived their entire lives in willful separation from Him. Having their part in the Lake of Fire is the natural result. Believers will be resurrected to a resurrection of life. One thousand and seven years later unbelievers will be resurrected in the resurrection of damnation. They will come forth from the place called Hell, be judged, and be cast into the Lake of Fire which was prepared for the Devil and his angels where they will suffer forever.

John 5:28-29: Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Individuals who receive Jesus become born again and receive a second life (eternal life) while those who reject Him receive the second death. Resurrection is making a body alive again that was physically alive before but died physically. Salvation is making a person spiritually alive that had not been spiritually alive before. A person who has been made alive spiritually will never die spiritually. Only his body will die and only his body will need to be resurrected.

John 5:24: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 11:26a: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. . . .

John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2 Corinthians 5:8: We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:52: In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

1 Thessalonians 4:14-18: For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
